School Development

As a school we continue to strive to further develop the learning, teaching and experiences offered within Norris Bank.

Following on from the success of last academic year, the Governors and I are proposing to build on our successes and develop the school further in the following four key areas based on data analysis and feedback from the Local Authority:

  1. GROW
  2. Inclusion for all
  3. Maths
  4. English

GROW

We are going to:

  • Further GROW a broad, balanced and creative curriculum which is evidence informed
  • Monitor and evaluate our curriculum provision, progression and teaching using book studies and pupil voice
  • Develop further modelling, explanation and retrieval strategies
  • GROW our middle leaders through working on NPQ’s with the Teaching School ‘Bright Futures’ and the North West Maths Hub
  • Grow our parental engagement further
  • Ensure our subject leaders are able to evaluate the quality and participation of pupils within their subject

Inclusion for all

We are going to:

  • Continue to raise attainment for all children and also our catch-up and pupil premium children
  • Further support Children’s wellbeing across school
  • Support children’s social and communication needs with ELSA sessions, Lego Therapy, SALT, RA and social skills groups
  • Ensure we embed the use of ‘Stockport’s Entitlement Framework’
  • Embed our adaptive teaching techniques for allFurther develop our PSHCE work in line with the 9 protected characteristics

Maths

We are going to:

  • Develop children’s understanding of mathematical concepts further
  • Embed the children’s use of visuals and manipulatives
  • Extend our work within the North West Math’s Hub develop ‘Mastery’
  • To embed the use of ‘lesson Studies’
  • To continue to develop the whole school’s ‘Maths Vision’
  • Embed the consistent and progressive use of and understanding of mathematical vocabulary 
  • Further develop a consistency in approach to the teaching of mental calculations
  • Enable children to have an understanding of the use of math’s in the outside world

English

We are going to:

  • Establish a consistent approach to teaching phonics using the ‘Little Wandle’ scheme, reading books, resources, assessments and on-line resources
  • To continue to raise standards in writing and increase the number of children attaining greater depth
  • Ensure children have a greater understanding of sentence construction and teachers  a consistent approach to teaching writing
  • Use more ambitious, challenging vocabulary in their writing through planning for more DEAL narrative immersion strategies to be used
  • Ensure the English team have a clear strategic overview of English across the whole school
